Regulations
Under the WDSF Code of Ethics ("Code of Ethics"), Article 2.5, titled ‘Idealism’ under Article 2 dealing with Fundamental Ethical Principles in DanceSport, provides for two offences (Article 2.5.1 on all types of betting or wagering, and Article 2.5.2 on general manipulation). Additionally, Article 3 provides for specific principles for Officials given the subjectivity in judging competitions.
Article 9 of the Code of Ethics states that breaches of this Code may lead to sanctions, and goes on to describe further situations in which violations may occur.
Investigations under the Code are undertaken by the Ethics Committee and reported to the Presidium with a suggestion for sanctions, which cannot be imposed by the Ethics Committee (Article 10.2)
Article 3.12 of the WDSF Internal Dispute Resolution Code (IDR Code) further states that the Presidium may impose sanctions based on Article 14(1)d of the WDSF Statutes.
Article 3.13 of the IDR Code then sets a non exhaustive catalog of sanctions.
Furthermore, the WDSF Statutes ("Statutes") also mention manipulation of competitions. The Statutes, in their objectives under Article 2, state specifically that “With reference to the purpose of the WDSF Statutes, found in its preamble, WDSF shall take action especially, but not exclusively, against …any sort of irregular and corrupt practices relating to DanceSport, including but not limited to improperly influencing the outcomes and results of an event or competition, activities that suggest or promote such improper influences and any sort of betting activities. These actions are prohibited and subject to sanctions”.
The sanctions are the ones provided for under Article 14.1 of the Statutes and those of Articles 3.12 and 3.13 of the IDR Code mentioned above.
